The XP 10000 disk array is configured with a new type of PCB (Printed Circuit Board), the Mix PCB configuration, that contains a mix of four CHIP MPs and four ACP MPs on the same processor board. The XP10000 array can have two such MIX PCBs, MIX-A and MIX-F. The mix board is considered both as a CHIP and as an ACP for the XP 10000 arrays. These mix boards would appear in all sections related to CHIPs and ACPs. The XP10000 can have two additional optional CHIPs, B and E. These optional CHIPs have the legacy configuration, i.e. they can have only CHIP MPs. The GUI displays the changed disk array configuration. 3.2 Enhancement to dkcs command -------------------------------- The dkcs command displays utilization metrics for CHIPS and ACPs for XP10000. 3.3 Enhancement to exportdb command ----------------------------------- The exportdb command exports data to a data visualization program, like MS Excel, for charting or graphing. It exports the data for DKC into a separate file for 2.0 display version. PA 2.2 displays 'INVALID' for components that do not exist for XP10000. LDEV I/O response time, and raid group utilization metrics are also available through this command. =================================== 4.0 UPDATE TO PA XP 2.2 USER GUIDE =================================== If a host is already collecting data from an array and the array's configuration changes, you can request the host agent to recollect configuration data from the array. 1. Click the Configuration tab on the main screen. 2. Click the Host Information tab. 3. Select from the hosts list the host which is collecting data from the reconfigured array. 4. Click the Request Info button. 5. Click the Submit button. During the next data collection cycle, the host agent recollects configuration data from the array and sends it to the management server for display on the Array View screen. =============================== 5.0 DEFECT FIXES FOR PA XP 2.2 =============================== 5.1 Problem in LDEV and LUSE display ------------------------------------- LDEVs will now be displayed within same grid display window. The LUSE data is correctly displayed in the grid display window. 5.2 Incorrect Year value for dkcs Command ----------------------------------------- The year value in the Record Date of the dkcs CLUI output is now correct. 5.3 dkcs command error on XP128/48 ---------------------------------- The dkcs command on XP128/48 works correctly. 5.4 Column Headings Interchanged on Port Summary Screen -------------------------------------------------------- The Avg IO/s and Min IO/s and the Avg MB/s and Min MB/s column headings are displayed correctly on the Port Summary screen. 5.5 Host agent fails to collect data ------------------------------------ Host Agent now collects data consistently without any error or failure. 5.6 Error message by host agent during data collection ------------------------------------------------------ The error, "Too many open cursor, max limit is 1000', encountered during data collection, will no longer occur. ================================= 6.0 KNOWN ISSUES AND LIMITATIONS ================================= The issues and limitations described in this section are known to exist for PA XP 2.2. 6.1 HP-UX Web Client Not Supported ----------------------------------- PA XP no longer supports HP-UX hosts as web clients. 6.2 GUI Client and PCAnywhere ------------------------------ When PCAnywhere is installed on a host that will be used to start the PA XP GUI client browser (either a PA XP management station or any PA XP GUI client host), the PA XP GUI client browser may hang after you enter the user name and password. Workaround: Install DirectX 9B or later on the host where PCAnywhere is installed. 6.3 Installing Command View XP on Existing PA XP Management Station but PA becomes case sensitive ------------------------------------------------------------ You can install Command View XP 2.2A and PA XP 2.2 in any order. If you want to install Command View XP 2.2A on an existing PA XP 2.2 management station, use the following procedure. Refer to the PA XP and Command View XP installation guides for step-by-step procedures. 1. Run the Backup/Restore utility as described in the HP StorageWorks Performance Advisor XP Installation Guide. 2. Uninstall PA XP from the management station. 3. Install Command View XP 2.2A on the management station. 4. Reinstall PA XP 2.2 on the management station. 5. Run the Backup/Restore utility to restore the PA XP management station data files. Note: If Command View XP is installed on a management station on which Performance Advisor is installed, then the existing PA users must ensure that they use the correct case for both the username and password characters while logging into the application. 6.4 Delay in Initial Data Collection ------------------------------------- The first disk array data collection will take longer than the configured frequency because PA XP must first collect configuration information from the array before collecting its performance data. After this initial collection cycle, subsequent data collection cycles will be the same as the frequency configured within PA XP. If you modify the frequency or request data from the Host Information window, an initial data collection is triggered, which results in the delayed data collection described above. 6.5 Slow Data Loading in ArrayView Window ------------------------------------------ If you view data from multiple XP disk arrays in the ArrayView window, there maybe a delay in loading the data. PA XP waits until data from all expected arrays is collected before displaying the data on this window. 6.6 Browser Refresh Button Exits PA XP --------------------------------------- If you click on Refresh on the web browser, PA XP exits. To obtain the latest data on the main window, exit PA XP, then log back in. To obtain the latest data on the Configuration window, click the Configuration tab on the main window. 6.7 Command View Data for Performance Estimator Feature not Propagated When SSL Enabled ------------------------------------------------------------ Command View data cannot be propagated to PA XP management stations working in SSL mode. If PA XP and Command View XP are installed on the same management station and a second instance of PA XP is installed on another management station on which SSL is enabled, then the first PA XP management station cannot propagate Command View XP data to the second PA XP management station. This data is required in order for the Performance Estimator feature to work properly. 6.8 Maximum Number of Data Points on Chart Window -------------------------------------------------- The Chart window displays a maximum of 1000 data points even if the selected time range contains more than 1000 data points. 6.9 Possible Limitation with High Number of LUNs per Port on XP1024/XP128 ---------------------------------------------------------- If an XP1024 or XP128 has more than 256 LUNs on a port, PA XP may not report the additional LUNs. 6.10 Recommended Maximum Number of Hosts for Remote Host Agent Deployment Tool -------------------------------------------------------- Depending on the management station's processor speed and network stability, deploying the host agent to a large number of hosts at the same time may fail. HP recommends deploying a maximum of five hosts at a time when using the remote host agent deployment tool. 6.11 United Linux Kernel 2.4.19 not Supported --------------------------------------------- The Support tab displays a link to download the United Linux Kernel 2.4.19 Host agent. However, XP disk arrays and PA XP no longer support this kernel version. Workaround: Upgrade the host to United Linux kernel 2.4.21, which is supported by XP arrays and PA XP. 6.12 Maximum LDEV for Data Collection ------------------------------------- To ensure optimal performance and results, the maximum number of LDEVs for data collection is 6000. This is the total number of LDEVs across all arrays that are visible to a particular Host agent. You can restrict the total number of LDEVs visible to a Host agent by restricting which arrays are visible to the host on which the Host agent is running. Workaround: To increase the maximum number of LDEVs to 16000, increase the amount of memory given to the JVM when the host agent and management station services are started. For the management station: 1. Edit the "HPSS\pa\tomcat\wrapper.properties" file. 2. Change the last line in the file from: wrapper.cmd_line=$(wrapper.javabin) -Dhpss.home.dir= $(hpss_home) -Xmx384m -Xrs -classpath $(wrapper.class_path) $(wrapper.startup_class) -config $(wrapper.server_xml -home $(wrapper.tomcat_home) to wrapper.cmd_line=$(wrapper.javabin) -Dhpss.home.dir= $(hpss_home) -Xms256M -Xmx512M -Xrs -classpath $(wrapper.class_path) $(wrapper.startup_class) -config $(wrapper.server_xml -home $(wrapper.tomcat_home) For the host agent on UNIX/Linux hosts: 1. Edit the "/opt/sanmgr/hostagent/sbin/HA_trigger" file. 2. Change the following line from: RUNJAVA="/opt/sanmgr/jre/bin/java -DHAGT=1 -Djava.net.preferlPv4Stack=true" to RUNJAVA="/opt/sanmgr/jre/bin/java -DHAGT=1 -Djava.net.preferlPv4Stack=true -Xms100M -Xmx256M" For the host agent on Windows hosts: 1. Edit the "\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\sanmgr\hostagent\ config\hostagentService.cfg" file. 2. Change the following line from: JAVA_OPTIONS="Djava.security.policy=config/sec.policy -Djava.library.path=lib -Djava.class.path=classes;classes/ jcore.jar;classes/hostagent.jar;../cssi/Logging/classes/ cssilog.jar" to JAVA_OPTIONS="Djava.security.policy=config/sec.policy -Djava.library.path=lib -Djava.class.path=classes;classes/ jcore.jar;classes/hostagent.jar;../cssi/Logging/classes/ cssilog.jar -Xms100M -Xmx256M" 6.13 Incorrect Port to SLPR Mapping ----------------------------------- The Grid Display Port Summary screen may display incorrect port to SLPR mapping for SLPR LDEVs that are assigned across different SLPR ports. Workaround: Use the new SLPR Detail View screen to see the correct port to SLPR mapping. From the Grid Display screen, double-click a value (in blue) in the SLPR column to display the SLPR Detail View screen. 6.14 Column Headings Interchanged on Port Summary Screen -------------------------------------------------------- The Avg IO/s and Min IO/s and the Avg MB/s and Min MB/s column headings are interchanged on the Port Summary screen. 6.15 Login Screen does not Display in Browser --------------------------------------------- In certain environments, the PA XP Login screen will not display. This occurs when the PA XP browser client starts, and PA XP does not recognize that Java Plug-in 1.4.2 is installed. Workaround: Perform the following steps to clear the Java Plug-in cache: 1. Close all web browser application windows, including Internet Explorer, Mozilla, Netscape, and so on. 2. Open the Windows Control Panel, and click Java Plug-in. 3. In the Java Plug-in Control Panel dialog, click the Cache tab. 4. Click Clear. 5. In the Confirmation Needed - Cache dialog, click Yes. 6. Close the Java Plug-in Control Panel dialog. 6.16 Xpdevicemap identifies XP10000 as XP12000 ---------------------------------------------- On Linux, AIX and Solaris, the XP10000 array will be displayed as XP12000 running xpdevicemap commands on host. Example: "/opt/sanmgr/hostagent/sbin/./xpdevicemap -m" display XP10000 as XP12000 6.17 Snapshot Volume details will not be displayed in Path Connectivity -------------------------------------------------- If an array has LUNs mapped to snapshot volumes, then the details of the mapped LUNs are not displayed in Performance Advisor or at xpdevicemap on the host. 6.18 XP10000 LDEVs identified as XP12000 ---------------------------------------- On Linux, AIX and Solaris, if LDEVs mapped to LUNs on an XP10000 disk array are not managed by the command device, then XP10000 will be displayed as XP12000. If data collection is issued through Linux, AIX, and Solaris, then XP12000 mechs will be displayed for XP10000. 6.19 Details of snapshot volumes not displayed ---------------------------------------------- Details of LUNs mapped to snapshot volumes will not be displayed in the Performance Advisor screens. 6.20 Exceptions encountered immediately after installing PA 2.2 -------------------------------------------------------- The event log screen displays exceptions after installing PA 2.2 as the PA Host agent is unable to attach a command device from the XP10000 array. This is because the command device is part of an SLPR and the permission is denied by SLPR. 6.21 Exceptions in the event log screen --------------------------------------- If a command device, through which you collect data, is exposed to a host through a specific port and both the port and the command device are not a part of the same SLPR, then the event log will display a list of warning messages. Due to this, the data collection might get delayed. This problem will not occur if the command device and the port are in the same SLPR. 6.22 Display error in the Grid display screen --------------------------------------------- While the data is being collected, the Grid Display screen shows data from XPINFO and the LUSE command device is displayed as OPEN-V*2-CVS instead of OPEN-V*2-CM. After the data collection is over, the Grid Display screen displays the correct information. ============= 7.0 APPENDIX ============= 7.1 Documentation provided on Performance Advisor CD 1 ------------------------------------------------------ 6+CLUI.pdf (Command Line Interface document) InstallGuide.pdf (Installation instructions) UserGuide.pdf (A user guide for the PA XP interface) Docs\CONFIG.HTML (Instructions on configuring PA XP ) Docs\INDEX.HTML (An index of PA XP documentation) Docs\INTRODUCTION.HTML (An introduction to PA XP) Docs\TRADEMARK.HTML (A list of trademarks) Docs\TROUBLESHOOTING.HTML (Instructions on troubleshooting PA XP) Although the documents listed above are not labeled with version 2.2, all documents apply to Performance Advisor XP 2.2.
